Named as one of Golf Digest’s “Best New Courses in America” in 1982, Oyster Reef enjoys a stellar reputation within Hilton Head Island’s golf community. Rees Jones routed the course as an intriguing series of doglegs requiring precision from tee to green. The well bunkered, multiple-tiered greens also call for a deft touch. Oyster Reef’s signature, however, is one of Hilton Head Island’s most scenic holes: the par-three sixth is set against the marshes and deep water of Port Royal Sound. Owned and managed by the Heritage Golf Group, Oyster Reef is a former Lowcountry “Golf Course of the Year” and earned four stars for excellence on the Golf Digest “Best Places to Play” list. It’s a Lowcountry legend that continues to impress.

Oyster Reef Golf Club has one of the Island’s most breathtaking views from the 6th and 7th holes that play out to, and back from, Port Royal Sound. The Rees Jones design is renowned for its marsh views (and conservation efforts to keep them pristine), collection of doglegs and a final five hole stretch that’s as challenging a shot-making test as you’ll find on the Island. The golf course is perhaps one of the best kept secrets on the Island, and coupled with the concierge services usually reserved for elite resorts, makes this course a “mustplay.” Off the course, Oyster Reef now features Hilton Head Plantation’s only neighborhood tavern as well. Lagerheads recently opened to rave reviews with a menu inspired by Chef Michael Toscano, a James Beard “Rising Star Chef” semifinalist. Menu selections include creations such as the “Juicy Lucy”, a burger infused with cheese, wings with “Alabama Sauce”, and more. An array of craft beer selections includes “Shark Tracker” (a beer supporting shark conservation), and select wines and house specialty drinks are designed to complement the chef’s creations.
